| Welcome to the Website of First Presbyterian Church --ORTHODOX PRESBYTERIAN-- 5th and Race Streets Perkasie, PA Worship Services: 9:30 AM Sunday School: 11:00 AM The Rev. Richard Scott MacLaren, Pastor Welcome to the web site of First Presbyterian Church! We have designed this site to introduce you to the life and ministry of our church, and to be a place where members of our church can get updates on the progress of our mission. Sermon and worship videos are available on this website by clicking on the "Sermons" button on the left. Currently, we average over 1,000 views per day of our sermon and worship videos. Visit us this Sunday to see what you have been missing! After exploring this site, you might click on our "Connections" button to the left to learn more about our broader church relationships within the Orthodox Presbyterian Church and other ministries. Our goal is to build a congregation in the Pennridge community committed to advancing God's kingdom in every area of life. We wish to see our homes, churches, schools, businesses, recreations, culture, governments and nation reformed by God's Word and Spirit. Jesus Christ is Lord of all, and to him belongs our complete devotion and faithful service. Please join us as we seek to lead our community to faith in Christ and to reform its life under his covenant of grace. Our congregation is from the Perkasie and greater Pennridge communities with a wide range of ages and backgrounds. We have joined together to proclaim the great salvation accomplished for us by Jesus Christ. It is our desire to see many in our community trust in Jesus Christ to receive God's free gift of eternal life, so that with us they may praise the Lord for all that he has done. We also desire to minister to those who already believe, strengthening them in their faith and equipping them to serve others in love. We have a great time of fellowship together, and are eager for new friends to join with us. You will find a loving church home with us, a place of peace and joy for your family, centered on God's holy word. Our faith is rooted in the Reformed tradition of the Christian church. While we hold to the "fundamentals" of the Christian church, we are not theological minimalists, reducing the content of Christian faith to a few bare minimums. We believe in a full and precise confession of faith in Jesus Christ, rooted and developed from the Scriptures, which we believe to be the very Word of God, inspired and inerrant in its original "autographa" (original documents). We seek to develop our understanding of the Scriptures through the preaching of the Word of God, preaching that proclaims the whole counsel of God for salvation and for daily spiritual growth. We see the person and work of Jesus in every text of Scripture, both old and new testaments, and desire to know him more and more. Parents with children should especially consider committing themselves to this church: though it is presently small, its ministry will grow with the Lord's blessing, and your family will be strengthened through a well-rounded gospel ministry, an all-embracing vision of life in this world under the Lordship of Jesus Christ, and a call to service in a broader communion of churches that share the same faith and life. Bring your friends, and grow with us!! | |
| There's No Place Like Home: Sunday Worship Services: 9:30 AM Sunday School: 11:00 AM Coming Events: - On Sunday, March 7, Pastor MacLaren will speak on "Belief in the Truth." Our modern age is very skeptical of any claims to "truth." Something may be true for you, or true for me, at this moment and in this circumstance, but the notion of an abiding, divinely revealed "Truth" is dismissed by many today. This is especially "true" when it comes to religious ideas. What is true about the Bible, Jesus, Heaven and Hell? Does believing make them true for us, or is there an objective truth that remains true whether we believe it or not? Come and worship the Lord Jesus Christ with us, who describes himself as "The way, the truth, and the life," and hear how essential it is to Christianity and to our souls, to believe in the "truth."
- Our Sunday School provides a discussion group studying the Gospel of Matthew. Written by one of Jesus' own original disciples, Matthew writes his gospel to show that Jesus is the Messianic King whose coming fulfilled all that was spoken of him in the law and the prophets. Matthew explains what it means to be a disciple in Jesus' Sermon on the Mount and Parables of the Kingdom. Study his gospel with us, and you will come away impressed by the great authority of Jesus, and your need to follow him. Our discussion begins at 11:00 AM downstairs in the church's fellowship hall.
- We are beginning a Sunday School for Pre-School Children (suggested ages 4-5), using a curriculum produced by Great Commission Publications called "Show Me Jesus." The program is designed to focus on the whole counsel of God, teach Christ in all of Scripture, and rely on the work of the Holy Spirit in the hearts of our children. The theme of the spring quarter is "Jesus is the Savior," and it is designed to show pre-school children that Jesus was sent because of God's great love. The class will start at 11:00 AM.
- Pastor MacLaren has begun a video Bible study posted online at www.Tangle.com. The video is called, "Sunday Presbyterian," and currently it is based on our Sunday School discussion of the gospel of Matthew. It goes into much deeper detail than what we handle during the Sunday School hour, and provides a way for those who want something deeper to go there and find perhaps some answers to questions.
- Pastor MacLaren's Sermons and our Sunday Services are posted online at www.Tangle.com. You can follow our ministry there from week to week and share any videos you like with your family and friends. Currently, we have over 1,000 views per day of our sermon and worship videos, with a total of over 240,000 views altogether.
- First Presbyterian Church will hold a Good Friday Service at 7:00 PM on April 2. Pastor MacLaren will lead the service with readings from the gospels on the death of Jesus and a meditation on the death of Christ for the church. A time of refreshments and fellowship will follow the service. All are welcome to attend.

We worship the one God who eternally exists in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This one God knows us fully and completely, and has sovereignly called us into his presence for worship each Lord's day. Our focus is on the transcendent glory of our infinitely personal Creator and Redeemer, whom we approach through His Son the Lord Jesus Christ, and by the Holy Spirit. Our worship is a revelation of the God of grace, who does not treat us as our sins deserve, but freely receives all who repent of their sins and trust in his word. His amazing grace is seen in the gift of his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, who in humility took on our humanity, and in that humanity he bled and died for the sins of his people. His sacrificial death fully atoned for all of their sin, eliminating the need for any further sacrifices or offerings for sin. What is more, his perfect righteousness has been credited to all who believe on him, so that they may enter the presence of the Father boldly in worship, knowing that in Christ they are now made perfect, even as their Father in heaven is perfect. We now live in hope of the glory of God, and await eagerly the revelation of his Son from heaven. Our worship is spiritual and true, as we worship in the simplicity and purity of God's word and Spirit. The Scriptures of the Old and New Testament reveal the mind and will of God for us, showing us how to be saved from the wrath of God and restored to his good favor. These Scriptures always focus on Jesus Christ in his work as our Prophet, Priest, and King. They provide the foundation for renewing us in Christ's image, making us mature and complete in him. They will transform our families, our church, and our world, until the earth is full of the knowledge of the Lord "as the waters cover the sea" (Isaiah 11:9). We value a traditional Reformed Liturgy that reminds us of our connections with the saints of the past, and points to our fellowship in heavenly places. We recite the Apostle's Creed and the Nicene Creed to show our union with the historic Christian church and the faith that has been passed down for generations. We include the Lord's Prayer in our prayers as a part of worship so that we may learn how to pray more fully in private. We sing of God's glory and his work of redemption using psalms and hymns approved by our session and the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. They express a mature faith in Jesus Christ, and provide rich vocal and instrumental harmonies for our worship. We bring our offerings before the Lord for his blessing, so that his kingdom would advance in our community and throughout the earth. "Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now am found, was blind, but now I see." --John Newton. | |
